The Department of Administrative Management,which was founded by Shanghai Ocean University in 2000, underwent a name changein 2014 to remain known as the Department of Public Administration. In additionto two undergraduate majors—Administrative Managementand Cultural Industry Management—the Department ofPublic Administration offers master's and doctoral degrees in fisheryenvironmental protection and governance, and an MPA degree. A publicadministration laboratory is available, alongside over ten practice bases.Furthermore, over fifty percent of the professional instructors possess priorexperience from studying abroad. On numerous occasions, the Department ofPublic Administration has been bestowed with the esteemed designation ofOutstanding Primary-level Organization by Shanghai Ocean University.
The Department of Public Administration hasimplemented a range of initiatives to promote a favorable study environment andenhance the development of effective study habits. It has prioritizedinnovative training and the nurturing of students, fostering their practicalskills through the establishment of a scientific store and social practiceplatform, as well as organizing knowledge competitions. Additionally, thedepartment has shown concern for and provided assistance to students fromethnic minority backgrounds. It has also integrated high-quality resources fromboth within and outside the university to create a collaborative effort inequipping students with the necessary skills for employment. It prioritizes thepromotion of mental health education among college students and develops acomprehensive campaign to raise awareness and knowledge. It also focuses onenhancing team cohesion and improving the effectiveness of counselinginterventions by integrating intervention networks and enhancing counselingskills. Aside from securing positions in government departments or working invarious enterprises and institutions, numerous graduates have gained admissionto prestigious domestic universities such as Renmin University of China, FudanUniversity, Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, andXiamen University for postgraduate studies. Additionally, some students opt topursue further education at foreign universities.
