The Department of Agriculture and Forestry Economics and Management was founded in 1956 as the first educational andresearch department specializing in fishery economics in China. In 1985, Chinaintroduced its first undergraduate major in fishery economic management. In2004, a doctoral program in Fishery Economics and Management was established.In 2006, Fishery Economics and Management was recognized as a key discipline inShanghai. In 2010, the major of Agriculture and Forestry Economics andManagement was designated as a national characteristic major. In 2018, it wasincluded in the double world-class project discipline constructionplan of Shanghai Ocean University. Finally, in 2019, it was selected as afirst-class undergraduate major construction site in Shanghai. It is currentlythe only major in China with a comprehensive teaching system for fisheryeconomics and management, and its scientific research power is among the bestin China.
